In the Mediterranean, water has never been just a resource—it has been a ritual. Long before the swimming pool as we know it today existed, there were already cisterns, small pools, and courtyards with central fountains—small reservoirs of tranquility built by generations who knew that water, here, is preserved, cared for, and celebrated. To design a Mediterranean home without considering this heritage is to ignore the very reason why this region builds the way it does.

Last Thursday, we enjoyed a very special afternoon at Bodega Montesanco, where the “Nuestra Arquitectura” series organized by the Alicante Regional College of Architects brought together architects, collaborators, clients, and friends to share a conversation about architecture, landscape, and ways of living in the region.

Mediterranean architecture is not a style. It is a way of understanding the landscape, the climate, and the way people inhabit spaces.
